Upgrade WordPress – Now!

WordPress 2.8.5 is now out and if you haven’t upgraded yet, like the title says – upgrade WordPress – now! I have around thirty sites that run WordPress so upgrading for me is a bit of a laborious project. If you only have one or two WordPress sites get them upgraded ASAP.

So why would you want to upgrade? Here’s a list of the main changes in this release:

  • A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
  • Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
  • Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
  • Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.

Upgrading software is one of the most overlooked security provisions. Most people don’t think about this until it is too late. If you want to hear a first-person account of this just read my post from last month when my blog was hacked: My Blog has been Hacked!

It’s not too late – upgrade WordPress – now!
