Weekend Musings

It’s another beautiful day in Marina del Rey and we’re enjoying some R&R around the house after a very busy couple of weeks. Right now my days are packed with Fashion Metric and a bit busier on the domain side of things as I get ready to release the 3rd edition of my book.

Fashion Metric is part of an exciting campaign run by one of our partners, Second Button based in NYC. We have been included in their Microsoft Outlook/Thrillist campaign as the primary way for people to get fitted for a shirt that are outside of New York City. You can read more about it on our blog.

Our Director of Europe was in London last week meeting with partners and we are excited to be bringing on some amazing new brands like Coeur and Soxfords. I ordered two pairs of “Space Invaders” socks from Soxfords, it actually took them over a year to negotiate the rights for the Space Invaders brand and as a big geek myself I think they are absolutely awesome.

While the focus of Fashion Metric right now is dress shirts, we are adding on a recommendation engine for accessories that will include things like socks, cufflinks, ties, etc. It has been a lot of fun working with new and emerging designers, so much energy and passion!

Most of our week was spent on the Second Button event as orders came in every day from soon-to-be happy customers across the US.

I learned that my blog readers really like reading about domains, not startups so I have kept my blog focused on domain names. Still I think it’s important for everyone to understand that my life is focused on our startup and although I still spend about an hour a day on the blog/domain business, I built a great team that now keeps things rocking and rolling.

I love domain names, I always will, and heck it accounts for 100% of my income now so it’s definitely important. That being said my dream has always been to build an innovative startup that changes the way people do things, not to work in a domain company. That’s why I built Linton Investments as a business rather than going down the path of a self-employed Domainer.

I know many people that love working in the domain space all day every day, but that’s just not me. As I said in my post yesterday, it’s all about doing what you love and doing it with people you love working with.

That’s all for now, movie night is starting – on the list are two movies we’re kicking ourselves for not seeing in the theaters – Lincoln and Life of Pi, oh well, thank goodness for Apple TV! I hope you are all having a great weekend!
