Weekend Musings + A Few Early Birthday Reflections

Hello, happy Sunday, and welcome to my weekend musings. We are getting ready to head to Fredericksburg which is a beautiful area in Texas Hill Country a little over an hour outside of Austin. Along with being the local wine region (although I’m not a big fan of Texas wine, still a California guy) what makes Fredericksburg really special is the escape from the hustle-and-bustle of Austin and immersion in a small, slow-moving town out in the country.

When we lived in LA we would make weekend trips to Santa Barbara to go wine tasting and escape the hustle-and-bustle of LA, in the Austin area this is our Santa Barbara, and although two very different places they serve the same purpose for us. That being said and just to answer the question in your head right now, yes, I’m a much bigger fan of Santa Barbara but hey, when it Rome, right?

Barons Creekside

The photo above is from Barons Creekside in Fredericksburg, our favorite place to stay when we visit. The owner is a successful Swiss Entrepreneur who traveled all over the world (over 80 countries in all) and decided that Fredericksburg was the place he wanted to call home. However he decided he wanted a taste of home here so he actually bought an old Church in Switzerland and had it taken apart piece-by-piece and shipped to Texas. He used this to build traditional Swiss cabins and I can tell you they are absolutely beautiful.

You can read more about them on TripAdvisor where they have a 5/5 with 177 reviews which as those of you who travel a lot know is an incredibly hard rating to get but this really is a special place. Sure there’s no ocean, but I have to say that Fredericksburg has become one of the highlights for us about moving from LA to Austin.

Okay, as you can tell I’m excited about hitting the road tomorrow is my birthday so we’re celebrating it today. As usual I get reflective around my birthday so here are a few early reflections, more to come tomorrow!

  • I feel so incredibly lucky to have found my soulmate, that one person that I want to spend every single minute with. We are both so lucky that after so many years of spending our days away from each other, we now get to spend every single day together doing what we love.
  • On that note, every morning I pinch myself, it seems unreal but we are honestly living our dream. We always talked about what it would be like to start a company, built it from the ground up, and do it all together, and now we’re doing it and it feels absolutely amazing.
  • Which brings me to our team. I feel so fortunate to work with some of the brightest and most dedicated people on the planet. I am humbled every day by our team, they are in all honesty the best-of-the-best and we are continuing to interview and hire more incredible people that will add to the dream team.
  • Last but certainly not least, while I don’t get as much time with my friends and family at this juncture in my life I still think about them every day and know that they understand and appreciate the journey we are on. I could not be more honored to have such a wonderful group of people in my life!

With that, it’s time head out to hill country. Enjoy your weekend!
