Weekend Musings – A Real Yellow Submarine

siru_submarine

One of my all time favorite Beatles songs is Yellow Submarine where the chorus repeats, “We all live in a yellow submarine” and while I don’t think I’d ever like to live in a yellow submarine, I did get a chance to see one up close and personal today.

As you probably know by now we moved to Marina del Rey in October and now live and work happily on the water. This afternoon we went for a walk on the marina and by one of my favorite super yachts on the planet which happens to call our neighborhood home for the next little bit – Suri.

On Thursday Suri had to get their submarines (yes they have two) re-certified so they took them out and down 1,000 feet under the pacific. I’m not sure I’d have the guts to go 1,000 feet below the ocean in this tiny yellow capsule, especially if the purpose of the trip was to prove that the thing still worked!

Of course there’s a lot more on my mind this weekend that Suri and it’s yellow submarine, this just happened to be a part of our afternoon walk. Right now our focus is Fashion Metric and the alpha we are running with a small group of users. It’s a lot of fun and incredibly cool to be building something completely new, it’s also a lot of work but the work really doesn’t feel like work and since we both love building this startup.

Last week we launched the Fashion Metric Blog which will be updated several times a week and mostly focus on trends in the Men’s Fashion space along with highlights on some of the things we’re working on.

On the domain side, Linton Investments sold 8 domains this week and bought over $7,000 in domains, mostly .COMs with a few .CO’s and .ME’s in the mix. The development team continues to work on some of our core properties along with the development of our latest project, Yacht rental lead gen site. I haven’t seen the site yet but look forward to seeing what they put together which should be ready by the end of this month. As I mentioned in an earlier post Understanding Who I Am And What I Do, I am not involved in any day-to-day work at Linton Investments but I do have a team of great people making it all happen. I do still pick the domains we buy and of course make sure we’re staying on track and reaching our revenue goals, that is always incredibly important.

Okay, it’s 9:30PM and we are finishing up a great book we are reading for a startup book club we recently joined. The book is called Blue Ocean Strategy and is a pretty incredibly book that I highly recommend for anyone else building a business or already running one. I hope you’re all having a great weekend, those are my musings, as always feel free to share your own below!
