Weekend Musings – From Chicago to Austin, IRCE to the XGames

Downtown Chicago

Hello, happy Sunday, and welcome to my weekend musings. This week I was in Chicago with our VP of Product for IRCE, the largest Internet Retail conference in the world. I took this photo from one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Chicago at the beginning of our trip while it was still sunny out.

Most of my week was spent in back-to-back meetings with retailers, brands, personalization companies, and eCommerce platforms, it was exhilarating and I can tell you we’ll look back on this week as a big moment in Fashion Metric history.

IRCE2015

This year IRCE had over 10,000 attendees and featured keynotes from notable retailers like Target and 1-800-Flowers along with organizations like Forrester Research which shared some incredibly interesting data, one of my favorite quotes is:

“By 2020, the amount of data that customers create daily will be 100X that of today” (Source – Forrester Research)

I got back to Austin on Friday and the next day found myself at the XGames for my first time.

XGames Austin Big Air

I had a good time at the XGames and while I can’t say that I normally watch skateboarding, BMX or dirt bike racing (and I’m not sure I’d watch it again) it was cool to be part of the experience. The highlight for me was watching Metallica live last night.

While I don’t listen to Metallica any more there was a good 4-5 years of my life where I did and hearing songs like “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “Master of Puppets” really brought me back. If any of my readers are big Metallica fans I did record a few of the songs and am happy to send some live tracks your way if you’re interested.

Okay, that’s it for me. As always I hope you are having a great weekend, feel free to comment on my weekend musings or share some of your own.
