Weekend Musings – Is Virtual Reality Coming Or Is It Already Here?

Hello, happy Sunday, and welcome to my weekend musings. First things first I hope all of you had a great Valentines Day and a good chance to spend some time with the love in your life. It was a beautiful day in Austin, here’s a photo I took a few blocks from our apartment while we were out and about.

The glass tower you see in the photo is called the Frost Bank Tower and has been a landmark that I often use to know where the heck I am in Austin. The Techstars Austin space is directly across the street and our apartment is only a few blocks away so if I’m ever lost I usually just look for the tower and head in its general direction!

I’ve had VR on my mind a lot lately, partially because I’m reading Ready Player One and also because I own Facebook stock and think what they are going to do with Oculus will probably change the world.

I was talking to a friend the other day about how “VR is coming” and I made the point that I don’t think it’s coming, I think Virtual Reality is already here. While it’s going to take some time for major gaming studios and television broadcasters to catch-up the technology has been around for some time now and is affordable and available to consumers thanks to Oculus, Google, and Samsung.

You Tube is already flooded with demos of VR games like VR Kart, a game that I’m pretty excited about since I’m a huge fan of Mario Kart. Here’s a quick look at what the games looks like, note it is still in pre-release:

The NBA announced they are filming the All Star game with VR Cameras which makes me think there’s a pretty good chance you’ll be able to watch the Super Bowl with a set of VR goggles as early as next year. While I agree VR has not gone mass market, I see this happening fast. Ten years from now I think we’ll all look like dinosaurs for using computers with small flat monitors.

Sunday tends to be a workday for us both to get some things done around the house and to get an early start on what we’ll be doing at Fashion Metric this week. Some people say they live for the weekend, I can honestly say that I live for the week because I can’t wait for Monday, which is why I want to get a head-start today!

Virtual reality will change they way we do most of our day to day tasks this year is an exciting year with augmented reality , hologram and hololens and immersive technology with the oculus rift set to change gaming , tv and movie life a full immersive experience imagine walking into your favourite museum then walking down Las Vegas blvd and having the world at your finger tips , kids can land on the moon watch history coming alive the definition of immersive :

Interesting post of many that you write, because I find it interesting by virtual reality.

I learn from the virtual reality of the books you buy at 18 years old and everyone in second hand bookshops and written in English,. internet arriving in Spain in 1996 see a need not be anywhere in the world

My project to start in 1997 with virtual reality resembles that of a system called Josua that served to play any game but could not win so it never playing the same three in a row.

What I have parked live in Spain, that is going to do each renewal year work-out that could make the day to see the light and all consumers can enjoy it, I doubt it that way, because since then no one has sent email being interested in the project is viable worldwide, technologically and commercially.
