We’re quarantining ourselves in our apartment in San Francisco as the Coronavirus spreads, here’s the video from Day One

Okay, I know I’m going to get teased for this, so tease away! That being said, like the title of this post says, we have decided to quarantine ourselves in our apartment in San Francisco as it’s clear the Coronavirus is spreading across the US and we’re way behind other developed nations when it comes to testing…and I mean way behind.

I’m not terrified of getting the virus, but I would rather not, while 80% of the cases are mild, 20% sound like an absolute nightmare. Also, while we aren’t in an age group that has been shown to die from the virus, I really don’t want to spread it so…we’re doing a little quarantine here in our apartment in San Francisco.

Rather than panic-shopping at Costco most of the food and supplies we’ve gathered have been delivered through Amazon Prime Now and Instacart. My prediction is that by the end of next week, once the US actually starts getting their testing process in gear, we’ll see Coronaviruses cases shoot up into the thousands, people will panic, and stores/delivery services will get overrun.

If that happens, we won’t have to change a thing, we’re set with enough food and supplies for about three weeks. Of course, I’m just trying to be extra cautious here. It’s very likely that next week things get under control and we go back to living our normal lives…but if that’s not the case, we won’t have to be one of the panicked people trying to buy whatever’s left in a 600-person Costco line.

Since we work remotely this simply means rather than working out of the co-working space we normally work out of a few days a week, we’ll be working from home full time. The other change is a few weeks away from the gym but I have weights and home and there are a ton of great exercise videos and apps I’ll be using to get in my regular daily workout.

Of course, if we’re going to quarantine ourselves I might as well have some fun and work on my iMovie chops, so I’ll be doing my best to record daily videos of what it’s like. Today is day two so, well, nothing too exciting to report, just a normal day working from home. Okay, now for the video, hopefully if anything it makes you laugh either at the content in the video or at me just being ridiculous. Either way, we could all use a little comic relief now so I hope this helps get you a bit more relaxed going into the weekend. Enjoy!

Now to get a little serious for a moment. I do think everyone should do everything they can to limit their risk of getting and spreading this deadly virus. While it can be easy to shrug off fears if you’re not in an age group that has been shown to be at risk it’s important to remember that you could transmit it to someone who is at risk.

We’re all living on this planet together, let’s do our best to help keep everyone safe and healthy. I have been very glad to hear that conferences like GDC, SaaStr, SXSW and Shoptalk and many more have been canceled or moved. They’re making the right move here. Not to be a broken record but more than anything simply washing your hands (and doing a good job) is probably the number one thing we can all do to prevent the spread of this virus.

Over the coming week I do think we’ll see cases of the virus skyrocket in the US. It’s important to remember that to-date the US been incredibly slow to test, if cases do jump into the thousands, don’t be surprised and panic, instead I recommend you be prepared. That’s what we’re trying to do, we’re not doomsday preppers and we aren’t hoarding supplies that could maintain a small village. Instead we’re focused on being prepared so if things do get worse, we don’t have to panic and drastically change our lives.

I know that I have blog readers all over the world, I wish all of you a happy and healthy weekend. Thanks for reading and hopefully the video I made yesterday brings a laugh or two as you end your week.
