What A Difference An “S” Makes – Why I Think The Buyer Of Musics.com Will Be Disappointed

I’ve written about it before, one little letter like an “s” can dramatically impact the value of a domain name. In some cases adding an “s” still leaves a valuable domain in its path, CreditCard.com is a solid name as is CreditCards.com. Car.com is a great name as is Cars.com. However this isn’t true in all cases, and in some cases that one letter can completely crush the value of a domain.

One of the best examples of this is Musics.com which saw a whopping $56,555 bid with five days still left to go over at Go Daddy auctions. Sorry but Music.com is without a doubt a high-six/seven-figure domain, add an “s” at the end and I honestly don’t see it being worth more than $10,000 – $15,000.

This is one of those cases where the “s” really doesn’t make any sense. Nobody says the word “musics” ever, period. It’s a hard one to brand with because I would imagine that most of the traffic will end-up going to Music.com making this already valuable name even more valuable.

So while it’s exciting to see a $56,555 bid on Go Daddy I think we’ll see this one sell for less years down the road after it goes through a series of failed auctions and end-user outreach.

What do you think? Is Musics.com worth north of $50K or is the buyer here going to end-up with a five-figure liability? Comment and let your voice be heard!
