What new domain name extension do you think has been the biggest success so far?

I thought now would be as good a good time to get a pulse on what the industry sees as a success and failure in the new domain name extension space. First let me just say, it’s still early, very early, and this will undoubtedly change over time. Also what metrics are important?

We all know that registries make money when people register and renew domains, but I personally think that the number of websites (quality website not made-for-adsense minisites) really gauges consumer interest in a new extension. I think it also comes down to team – a registry with a good team behind it has a much better chance of success than one that doesn’t.

So what do you think, what new gTLD has really hit it out of the park so far and why?

    I see some people around me started to build their projects on .io domains. It’s a short, easy to remember gTLD, not confusing like .co/.com

    .club and the city gTLDs are the best in my opinion

    and lets not forget .xyz 😉

    None at the present time. In a year we will see if .xyz did a brilliant move to profits or bankruptcy.
    However, the domains they gave away for free are not worth registering even in .com, so the future looks bleak. Who is going to renew such garbage?

    From the perspective of a domain investor I don’t feel that any of the registries have achieved a level of success necessary for names to appreciation in the aftermarket. Of course there will always be category killer names in each extension. If I were to pick one extension that I think will gain traction and acceptance it would be the one that almost all domainers love to hate. “.xyz” The team at .xyz seem to have taken an approach that is unique. They don’t seem to get caught up in what the domain community thinks, and are steadily moving towards their target. The free publicity that they get from the domain community alone keeps their extension in front of eyes of many people while so many of the others g’s are forgotten by weeks end of their general release. They may gain traction in certain circles just because they are hated so much by many in the domain community, It could be a reverse phycology situation. When they hit the million mark the media is not going to report on how they got there only that they got there first.

    I for one try, domains, single, social, in two words, the domain name .Com have a present value of $ 1000K another two words .xyz be valued the domain name. Com at $ 75K, everything is try as I think it is the principle of generic domains where. Com was the king and even still is and always will continue as the chief of all extensions

    Start good with new extensions some of them three, four and six letters have become domain names premium just have to go get lucky, like poker or lottery is played by touching it is okay and if not throw it away and maybe if you think back to playing the same number and play years and does not touch you, you leave the dull and the next day get this number with millions of dollars that you have left to win.

    When you buy a domain name from any extension already know that we are playing with the fate of one day receive an email with a significant offer, or boring you let it expire or sell for $ 99 and then you see after a month or two what you sold for so little money now sells for $ 100K this is so lucky in this market and industry is present every day, hours, minutes and seconds of round.

    Would say .club, .guru second. Everything else looks like a dismal failure. “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king”.

    If you look at “single-TLD registries”, .club has certainly done the best job yet. The geo TLDs such as .berlin and .london do rank high in terms of domains registered, yet after an initial boom they typically suffer from low run rates. If you look at the business side of things, I think you have to consider registries being the relevant commercial entity. And in this respect, Donuts has by far had the best approach, spreading its fixed cost over a lot of TLDs (and launching early PLUS with all relevant registrars on board – unlike Uniregistry and Afilias who lost quite some traction).

    I think the .CLUB new gTLD is a clear demonstration of how successful a registry project can be and the first reason for this is that it is highly descriptive. Then, I think the project management is good too: one small team for one single project. Another reason maybe, the 50/50 method to develop the project was followed.

    No gtlds have hit it out of the park. None ever will. The reason is fairly obvious:

    All are .stupid, none are .wanted and all of the gtlds will .fail

    I see .IO as the winner! I even use some .IO sites. I like .club but if I owned a night club or any type of club I would want .com

    Very interested in how .realtor turns out. Brilliant move to give the first year free to any licensed real estate agent, which is great for giving realtors an online presence. I think these kind of real-world identity tie-ins are great spurs for TLD adoption (albeit less interesting for domainers).

    I will write a second opinion with reference to my first comment, I think Berlin is very good, like London, over other one is Social remember is a buzzword in the world of users and companies.
