I’ve written about domain hacks before and while I don’t think they are great for long-term branding, it’s hard to ignore the number of companies embracing them. Yes, I do think many domain hacks probably lose a nice chunk of traffic to the .COM, but still TLDs like .IT, .ES, .LY, and .US are being used to create one word URLs for companies around the world.
I want to say the trend really got started with Bit.ly and .LY, soon there were tons of companies that appended “ly” to a generic word and made that their brand. While the .LY trend has definitely died down, it created a ripple. Now companies do consider domain hacks as a viable option when the .com is taken and with new gTLDs coming that means new domain hacks will also become available.
With a wave of new gTLDs coming my question for all of you is, which new gTLD will be the best for domain hacks?
