When It Comes To Mobile, Apps Are Crushing The Web

Yes, we all love domain names. Heck I’ve been writing about domains since 2007 so I have to still think they are pretty awesome. While I love domains and don’t think they are going anywhere I am also constantly looking at data and trying to understand where the world is going over the next 5-10 years.

First in case you missed the memo, there is no “mobile fad” – mobile is fucking huge, and it’s growing faster every month. This afternoon I saw some very interesting data published by Flurry Analytics showing how apps are completely dominating mobile. Take a look at this:

mobile-web-vs-apps
Time spent on a mobile device by the average US consumer has risen to 2 hrs and 42 minutes per day from 2 hrs and 38 minutes per day in March of 2013. Apps continued to cement their lead, and commanded 86% of the average US mobile consumer’s time, or 2 hrs and 19 minutes per day.” (Source – Flurry)

Now don’t panic, the web is still going strong and I actually think .COM domains are going to see a very nice increase in value over the next five years. Still, if you’re trying to keep up with how the world is changing you’d be crazy not to start thinking about how you can tap-into the app-ecosystem.

The world changes fast and your business should be changing with it.
