Who is your go-to domain registrar?

I am approaching 11 years in the domain world and one thing I’ve found is that my favorite registrar has changed over time. When I first started I didn’t know anything about how to pick a registrar so I went with 1&1 who turned out to be a nightmare. Then I bounced around for a while until I landed at Go Daddy, then Uniregistry came out and IMHO changed the game in many ways.

That being said, today I still have most of my domains at Go Daddy but I’m a big fan of Uniregistry and could see myself likely splitting my portfolio between the two over time. What I really like about Uniregistry is that it’s a complete end-to-end solution that makes it easy for me to put up landing pages, list domains for sale, and register, renew, and manage domains all in one place.

At the same time, Go Daddy gets a ton of eyeballs at Go Daddy auctions and it’s a really easy to list domains you have registered with them there. I also am a big fan of Go Daddy’s DTVS (Domain Theft Verification System) it is one of the best ways to secure your domains.

So I’m split, I don’t have one answer to my question, I have two. Of course I’m always interested in what my readers think so now I’d love to hear from you. Who is your go-to registrar? I want to hear from you, comment and let your voice be heard!

    Hi ML!
It’s definitely GoDaddy for me too.
Started with them as they gave the best introductory offers.
IMO they have the easiest, quickest and user friendly interface for domain management including forwarding, transfers and DNS.
I’ve used a few other registrars when GoDaddy don’t support a TLD but found those very long winded to even get used to.
But you’re definitely right, Uniregistry has changed the game. Although I only have a couple of domains there at the moment, it’s a contender for GoDaddy.

I couldn’t agree more! I am ~200 names with godaddy and ~200 with uniregistry. Godaddy auctions makes it almost to leave them, but I do prefer uniregistry’s consistency with my default nameservers (parking crew).

I use both GoDaddy & Name. Name has free private whois (with coupon) and is generally cheaper for renewals. I use Name mostly with my personal domains and GoDaddy for domains I sell.

NameSilo, without a doubt. No other registrar comes close. They are the only domain industry I truly enjoy working with (and that I trust). Super functional, fast, and feature packed. Best registrar for domainers imo. I give them 10/10.

DynaDot and Epik are pretty good, but their control panel’s are just a bit too clunky for managing a large portfolio. I give them 7/10.

Worst registrars are GoDaddy, NetworkSolutions and 1&1. Terrible control panels aside, my main issue with these registrars is their lack of respect for domain ownership rights. Over the years, all of them have stolen domains from me with no legal basis for doing so. Lools like I’m not the only one who have been victim to their dishonest practices. A registrar where I can’t be certain that all of my domains are safe is not a registrar I’m willing to use. I give GD, NS and 1&1 1/10.

As for Uniregistry, I never gave them a try. Didn’t like the way things were handled at DNS, so I never gave Uni a try.

    Hi Morgan,
My favourite registrar is Namesilo.com. They have cheaper renewals and do not charge for any extra services like web forwarding etc.

NameSilo is my favorite and has been for a few years now. Simple interface, no up-selling, easy to perform all of their tasks. They are VERY responsive to email customer service – in fact they still have email customer service whereas GoDaddy has dropped it some years ago. I cant always call and certainly dont have time to sit and chat (when its up and running anyway). NameSilo’s pricing is very competitive and you dont need to purchase a discount club membership to get that low pricing. Check out their prices here to compare: https://www.namesilo.com/pricing.php?rid=78a1e23vm

I cannot move all of my domain names to Uniregistry fast enough. The best, hands down.
