Will .cm become the next jewel of the domaining world?

November 15th and .cm will be available. What makes this TLD special – two things, first, it is a common typo of .com, the most common TLD in the world. The second thing that makes this TLD special is that it is also a common typo of .cn, the most common ccTLD in the world. What does this mean for the domaining community?

Remember in baseball video games when you were able to make a team of nothing but stars. It was unfair to the other team but you didn't care – your team could do anything. Okay, so this is certainly a loose analogy but the idea is simple. Never before has a TLD with so much potential been released…never. I think we have seen that change is here – markets can rise and fall in a matter of months, currencies fluctuate from one extreme to the other, and the domaining world could (and just might) be forever changed by .cm. I'm not saying everyone should go out and buy ever .cm name they can find. From what I can see it is expensive and nearly impossible to find a quality registrar to pre-register with although a list of approved partners is listed at the link below:http://www.netcom.cm/registrars.phpWhether you are brand new to domaining or a long time domaining fanatic – this has a lot of potential. Don't try to grab the key one-word .cm's like "car" or "cruises" or "house" – you will battle forever in auctions. Instead look for some strong niche keyword domains from two or three words that would most likely be typed together. Who know's…you might just find the next big domain!
