Hello and welcome to WordPress Wednesday here on MorganLinton.com! Today I wanted to talk about an incredibly important topic, yet one that many push off until it’s too late, I’m talking about WordPress Backup solutions.
First let’s cover the reasons why you need to have WordPress backed-up as frequently as possible:
- You’re not the only person in the world running WordPress, in fact a nice chunk of the websites out there run WordPress which means it is a common target for hackers and spammers
- Even great hosting companies can make mistakes and there’s nothing worse than losing great content you took time to write
- Last but not least, if you somehow break your WordPress installation, it’s always nice to know you have a backup
Luckily there are a number of backup solutions for WordPress ranging from free to paid and I wanted to cover three of my favorite solutions in this post, starting with my personal favorite – VaultPress.
VaultPress is my favorite solution because it’s honestly the best of the best since it is made by Automattic, the people who make WordPress. The basic plan costs $15/month and this covers your site in realtime and provides an automated site restore process and Concierge Support for anyone that needs extra help. f you are serious about WordPress security this is the best solution out there.
If you still want to backup WordPress on a regular basis, but don’t want to spend any money your best bet is BackWPup. This is a fully automated backup solution that can store your backups on Dropbox, Rackspace, Amazon S3 or a whole host of other options (no pun intended, okay some pun intended!). Like most things that are free there is warranty supplied so you’ll need to test your backups to make sure they’re working.
WP-DB-Backup
For the purist in all of us, if what you want is a simple Database backup, that is what WP-DB-Backup will get you. This is the no-frills solution which is why you don’t see a fancy logo above this solution like the other two I recommend. Still, at the end of the day, backing-up your WordPress database is the bare minimum you’ll need to do and this will do it for you without any other features to get in your way.
So if you’ve been looking for a good WordPress backup solution, look no further. While there are hundreds of solutions out there, picking one of these three will help you rest easy knowing that if something goes wrong, you’ll be prepared.
