In 2011 a new focus on two and three-word .COMs made one heck of a difference and in 2012 I’m expanding my reach to now include numeric domain names. Right now the top marketplace for numerical domains is 4.CN, a domain marketplace in China. 2011 saw some very strong numerical domain sales with 11.com taking the #7 spot for the year with a sale price of $525,000 and 45.com in 18th place with a sale price of $280,000.
Not only are numerical domains heating-up but there’s a very healthy, growing demand for domain names in the Asian market. This came-up at every domain conference I attended last year and in 2012 I’m going to get closer to the action. 4.CN also sells a lot more than numerical domains with a strong group of buyers and sellers in Asia and a growing group in the US.
The first place I heard about 4.CN was on DomainShane.com and Shane has some really great posts about numerical domains and the market in general. I recommend taking a look at his posts about NNNN.com‘s as well as those about Numerical Domains.
As Asia continues to become an increasingly important force in the Domaining world numerical domains will continue to increase in value and marketplaces like 4.CN will become even greater commerce hubs. My switch to focus on .COM in 2011 is one of the single best decisions I made in 2011 and adding numerical domains and getting closer to the Asian market will hopefully be another good move. Of course this brings me back to the basics, luckily I know some great mentors that can help show me the ropes and get started with numerical domains the right way.
This also means that I’ll be sharing this new adventure with all of you. Every single domain name that I bought in 2011 and that I will buy in 2012 comes purely from the profit I’ve made selling domains. As Domain Investors its up to us to take these profits and continue to turn them into even greater profits every year. Stay-tuned, more to come!
