My Own Live TV Show! It’s Official – Morgan’s Going Live!

Last night I recorded my first live video broadcast and I can say I enjoyed it even more than I expected! In total I had 34 viewers with a maximum of 17 viewing at the same time. While these are small numbers I only announced the show two hours in advance and just through a blog post and a few tweets. At one point in the show I welcomed people to call-in and actually took a live call on the show!

I also had an epiphany – live video is a whole different beast than pre-recorded video. What’s the big difference – interaction! With a live broadcast I can actually respond to questions that my viewers have, talk to them over the phone, or even add them to the broadcast video. I think this format allows people to connect unlike anyone on broadcast television has before (outside of interaction with a live studio audience) and I think we’re just seeing the beginning of what will be the next big online video craze.

Here’s a cool example about how live video broadcasts are a game-changer. Imagine if I am trying to fix my bathroom sink, now I know almost nothing about home repair so I go on You Tube and look for “fixing bathroom sink.” Then I sort through videos hoping to find one that covers specifically what I’m looking for. Now, imagine that there is a daily live video show online by a handyman who helps people fix anything. I could tune-into the show, ask my question and get a response and possibly video demo of exactly how to do what I’m looking for.

This is just one example of what I think will be a growing trend in the online video space.

Now for those who know me – you know I’ve always wanted to have a live TV show and now that I see that this is possible – right now – I’m going to do it! My travel schedule is a bit hectic so I can’t say it will be everyday – but it will be as often as I can and I’ll publish the schedule weekly. I’m still putting-together the site so you’ll have to check-back to the upcoming schedule.

The show is going to mirror my blog so will cover Domain Investing, Domain Development, SEO, Affiliate Marketing, as well as my occasional wacky travel adventure, conference exclusive, and more! Everyone is encouraged to interact and if you’re not camera-shy you could end-up on the show as well!

Geez, I wonder what sparked this idea?
As for the handt men videos they are already all over the web- controlled by demand media who will pay for video from guys like you via demandstudios.com/ I wrote about this months ago:

@Owen – I was inspired to try uStream.tv reading the book Crush It! Wanted to use it on your show but not enough time to experiment.

What I’m talking about here is a major movement of people watching their TV shows online rather than through major networks. I can see this is just the beginning of the trend…

If you wanted to take live phone calls I would highly suggest you get a screener, someone that screens the calls before they go live. You would not believe the amount of people on the internet that just want to mess things up for people just for laughs.

Also, LiveDomainer.com had tried something similar to this but eventually quit. Though if you make the correct formula and schedule specific shows with an actual time slot, you might just have gold on your hands.

Excellent point @Ross – I’m glad I got lucky with my first caller!

Hmmm, I never heard about LiveDomainer.com but I’ll take a look at what they did. My idea is to do something consistently – with anything I feel it comes down to consistency. So many people talk about great ideas but it takes the time and dedication to actually follow-through with them!

Hi Morgan, you can have a look at Justin.TV – it’s great for live shows! There are people who use it for their lifecast 24/7, with great A/V quality!

Thanks @Joe – definitely looks like a cool service as well. I’ll start comparing the two and see which I think is the best-fit for a long-term solution.
